Essential Travel Tips for Your Great Migration Safari Package
Planning a migration safari? Here’s everything you need to know to ensure your adventure is smooth, safe, and unforgettable!
When to See the Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of the world’s most incredible wildlife events. Millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the Serengeti in search of greener pastures. It is also possible to see the Big Five during the great migration safari.
You’re most likely to catch the action between June and July or again in October to November. Calving season between January and March in Southern Serengeti also provides great opportunity to see many of the Big Five, especially the leons and leopards as there is an abundant supply of vulnerable young calves.
What to Pack for Your Great Migration Safari
Packing smart makes a big difference. Here’s a quick checklist:
- Neutral-colored clothes (like beige or olive) help you blend in with nature and avoid attracting insects.
- A wide-brim safari hat for sun protection.
- A good camera or smartphone to capture the magic.
- A flashlight or headlamp for evening use in camps or lodges.
- Insect repellent to protect against mosquitoes.
Bonus tip: Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and comfy walking shoes!

Before your trip, talk to your doctor about vaccinations and anti-malaria medication. Tanzania is in a malaria zone, so it’s better to stay protected. Pack a basic first-aid kit too—it’s always good to be prepared.
