Arrival Day
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our team will warmly welcome you. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha for a briefing about your upcoming adventure. Enjoy dinner and relax before the safari begins.
Day 1: Game Drive in Tarangire National Park and Transfer to Karatu
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, known for its vast elephant herds and iconic baobab trees. Spend the day exploring this beautiful park on game drives, spotting lions, giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife. Tarangire’s winding rivers and open savannahs make it a prime location for diverse wildlife sightings. As the sun sets, head to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Karatu to Central Serengeti
After an early breakfast in Karatu, depart for the Serengeti. The scenic drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, offering breathtaking views and chances to spot wildlife along the way. By afternoon, reach Central Serengeti, a prime migration zone during this period. Enjoy a game drive, observing large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and possibly big cats like lions and leopards. The open plains provide excellent opportunities for photography and close wildlife encounters. Check-in at your lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Central Serengeti to Western Corridor
Travel westward, following the migration trails. Game drives will take you through areas where the herds begin to congregate near the Grumeti River. Keep an eye out for predators lurking nearby. Spend the night at a camp or lodge in Western Serengeti.
Day 4: Grumeti River Crossing
Spend the day at key crossing points along the Grumeti River, where thousands of wildebeest attempt to navigate the crocodile-filled waters. This is a thrilling spectacle of nature as some make it across while others fall prey to the river’s dangers. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and relaxation.
Day 5: Full-Day Game Drive in Western Serengeti
Continue exploring the Western Corridor, observing the herds as they recover from the crossing. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, and scavengers such as hyenas and vultures can be seen taking advantage of weakened prey. Visit key wildlife hotspots and enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild before returning to your lodge.
Day 6: Western Serengeti to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, begin your journey back toward Central Serengeti. Stop along the way for more game viewing and enjoy another perspective of the migration. Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon and unwind with a scenic sunset view.
Day 7: Central Serengeti to Moshi/Arusha
Enjoy one last game drive in the morning, taking in the beauty of the Serengeti at sunrise. After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for a flight back to Arusha (or an optional drive). Travel Tips on a Migration Safari
Planning a migration safari? Here’s everything you need to know to ensure your adventure is smooth, safe, and unforgettable!
When to See the Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of the world’s most incredible wildlife events. Millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the Serengeti in search of greener pastures. It is also possible to see the Big Five during the great migration safari.
You’re most likely to catch the action between June and July or again in October to November. Calving season between January and March in Southern Serengeti also provides great opportunity to see many of the Big Five, especially the leons and leopards as there is an abundant supply of vulnerable young calves.
What to Pack for Your Great Migration Safari
Packing smart makes a big difference. Here’s a quick checklist:
- Neutral-colored clothes (like beige or olive) help you blend in with nature and avoid attracting insects.
- A wide-brim safari hat for sun protection.
- A good camera or smartphone to capture the magic.
- A flashlight or headlamp for evening use in camps or lodges.
- Insect repellent to protect against mosquitoes.
Bonus tip: Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and comfy walking shoes!
Health Precautions
Before your trip, talk to your doctor about vaccinations and anti-malaria medication. Tanzania is in a malaria zone, so it’s better to stay protected. Pack a basic first-aid kit too—it’s always good to be prepared.
Is It Kid-Friendly?
Absolutely! A Migration Safari can be a magical family adventure. We recommend it for kids aged 6 and above so they can fully enjoy the spectacular animal migrations and understand the wonders of nature. Many lodges also provide fun and educational activities for children, making it a memorable experience for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
How physically demanding is this safari?
A: This safari is moderately active. You’ll spend several hours each day in a vehicle on game drives, occasionally on bumpy roads. Walking is limited to camps, lodges, and optional short, guided walks where permitted. No special fitness level is required, though being comfortable with early mornings and long, exciting days will enhance your experience.
What are the bathroom facilities like during game drives?
During game drives, bathroom facilities are basic “bush toilets” (private natural areas). Most parks have designated picnic spots with simple toilet facilities. Your guide will ensure regular comfort stops. Morning drives typically return to camp for late breakfast, providing access to proper facilities.
Is malaria a concern during safari?
Tanzania is a malaria zone, so precautions are recommended. Consult your doctor about anti-malarial medication before travel. Additionally, use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants in the evenings, and sleep under provided mosquito nets.
Can I charge my camera/phone during the safari?
Yes, all lodges and camps have electricity for charging devices, though some remote tented camps may offer limited charging hours (typically when generators run in the morning and evening). Bringing spare batteries and a power bank is recommended.
What type of safari vehicles do you use?
We use 4×4 safari jeeps with pop-up roofs for 360° views, comfortable seating, charging ports, and a cooler box for drinks. All vehicles are well-maintained and designed for off-road adventure
What is the vehicle seating arrangement?
A: We use custom-designed 4×4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs and large windows. Each guest is guaranteed a window seat for optimal game viewing. Vehicles comfortably accommodate 6 guests plus your guide/driver, with enough space for photography equipment.
What happens if we don't see a river crossing during crossing season?
: River crossings are natural events that cannot be guaranteed. Our experienced guides maximize your chances by positioning you at likely crossing points based on herd movements. Even without a crossing, you’ll witness massive herds and predator activity that make the migration spectacular year-round.
How close do we get to the animals?
Safety always comes first, but our guides are skilled at positioning vehicles for optimal viewing without disturbing wildlife. Typically, you’ll be anywhere from 10-50 meters from animals. Bringing binoculars and a camera with a good zoom lens is highly recommended.
Is Wi-Fi available during the safari?
Most lodges offer Wi-Fi in common areas, though connection speed varies and may be slower than you’re accustomed to. Some remote camps have limited or no connectivity. Consider this safari an opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the wilderness experience.
Can I add on a Zanzibar beach extension after my safari?
Absolutely! Many guests choose to complement their wildlife adventure with a relaxing beach stay in Zanzibar. We offer tailored extensions ranging from 3-7 nights that can be seamlessly added to your safari experience.
